Home Inspector Licensing and Continuing Education Classes



Tennessee Home Inspector Continuing Education Information

Tennessee home inspectors are licensed by the Home Inspector Licensing Program which was enacted April 18, 2005 to ensure that only qualified persons are licensed home inspectors. Tennessee has pre-licensing continuing education requirements. Since December 28, 2006 applicants for licensure in Tennessee must meet these requirements:

  1. Is at least 18 years old
  2. Has graduated from high school or have a GED
  3. Has not been convicted of a felony or any other crime that has a direct bearing on the applicant's ability to perform competently and fully as a licensee
  4. has successfully completed 90 hours of education approved by the commissioner in the performance of home inspectors and the preparation of home inspection reports
  5. Has passed an examination approved by the commissioner
  6. Has a current certificate of general liability insurance in the amount of at least $500,000
  7. Has a current certificate of errors and omissions insurance to cover all home inspection activities contemplated under T.C.A. 62-6-301 et seq. and these rules.

In order to renew your two year license you must provide proof of completing a minimum of 32 hours of approved continuing education.
