Home Inspector Licensing and Continuing Education Classes

Maryland Continuing Education Information

Home inspectors are licensed in the State of Maryland as of January 1, 2008. Maryland's Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation began the licensing process for home inspectors on April 1, 2007, with all Maryland home inspectors required to be licensed by January 1, 2008. This new program is administered by DLLR's Maryland Real Estate Appraiser and Home Inspection Commission, which was created to bring more consumer protection, education and oversight to the industry.

In order to become a licensed home inspector and applicant must complete at least 48 hours of an approved education program, have a high school or equivalent certification and carry a minimum of $50,000 in liability insurance.

The cost of a home inspector license is $400.00 and is valid for two years. In addition, a one time $50.00 non-refundable application fee is required. As of January 1, 2008, it will be illegal to operate in Maryland without a valid Maryland Home Inspector's license.
