Louisiana State Board of Home Inspectors Information
Home inspectors are licensed in the state of Louisiana. There are both pre-licensing and renewal education requirements. Inspectors are governed by the rules set forth in Title 46 - Professional and Occupational Standards Part XL. Home Inspectors. To become a home inspector in Louisiana applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have completed high school or received a GED
- Passed the required training, 120 hours with 30 hours of in the field instruction
- Pay the state fee
- Submit and application
- Provide proof of insurance
- Not have a licensed revoked or suspended in another state
As a condition of license renewal, an inspector must certify completion of at least 20 hours of instruction during the previous licensing period, in courses approved by the Board. The same continuing education course may be taken only once for continuing education during any three year period, unless otherwise approved by the board. i-Course offers classes which can be used for Louisiana CE credits by signing up through The Building Inspection Institute.
