Indiana Professional Licensing Agency Information
We have been approved by the Indiana Home Inspectors Licensing Board as a CE Provider. Home inspectors have been licensed in the state of Indiana since 2005. The Indiana Professional Licensing Agency is in charge of the regulation of home inspectors. There are educational requirements for both pre-licensing and renewal.
The license requirements are:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Graduated from high school or obtained a GED
- Has not been convicted certain crimes
- Completed a board approved training program and passed a board approved exam
- Obtain $100,000 of insurance
- Pay the state fee
The current state requirement for pre-licensing is a board approved course of no less than 60 hours with a minimum 40 hours of classroom training and a minimum 12 hours of practical experience. The course must include instruction in the following subject areas: heating, cooling, electrical, plumbing, structural, foundations, roofs, exterior and interior, and Indiana licensure law and report writing.
Continuing education is required for renewal. Before the end of each license period, each licensee must complete the continuing education required by the board. This requirement may not exceed twenty (20) hours per year. The current requirement is 16 continuing education hours a year. Since Indiana inspectors are licensed for two years, you will need to have 32 hours for your renewal if you have been licensed for two years. If you have only had the license for one year before renewal, you will be required to have 16.
