California Business and Professions Code Information
Home inspectors are not currently licensed or regulated in the State of California. Home inspectors are governed by the Business and Professions Code Section 7195-7199. This section of California law describes what a home inspection is, what the degree of care is, unfair business practices, and contractual provisions regarding limits of liability. There have been repeated attempts to license home inspectors in California but none have made it.
The California Real Estate Inspection Association (CREIA) has the largest presence in the state with approximately 900 members. Contact CREIA if you would the current status regarding any pending state bills.
